WELCOME:The Mid-Atlantic Institute for Telecommunications Technologies (MAITT) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) funded project located on the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey. The NSF grant provides funding to develop “cutting-edge” educational programs at Brookdale Community College in wireless communications integrating:
MAITT will
guide students in acquiring a high-tech degree and/or certificate that
will put them ahead in the technology field by giving them the up-to-date
skills required to remain and/or become a valuable employee. |

OUR GOAL: The goal of this Advanced Technology Education (ATE) project is the modification of an existing Electronics Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree Program to include Wireless Communications, the development and implementation of new Wireless Communications AAS and credit certificate programs articulated from high school, through community college, and to the university level. With multiple entry and exit these new programs will incorporate work-relevant, industry-driven curricula that integrates “best practices” in IT education with industry skills standards and certifications, preparing technicians for the wireless communications industry. The project components will include curriculum development and adaptation, program development, professional development for high school and community college faculty, and development of a 2+2+2 articulation. PARTNERSHIP WITH NCTT AND OTHERS: As a part of a network of regional partners working with the National Center for Telecommunications Technologies (NCTT), the ATE project will serve as the focal point for regional dissemination of this curricula and training to regional business and industry. In addition to NCTT, strategic partnerships have been established with two other national ATE centers, two of the premier engineering schools in the country, postsecondary institutions offering degrees in telecommunications, magnet high schools in Monmouth County that focus on technology and communications curricula, and a regional leader in the wireless telecommunications industry. OUR OBJECTIVES: Key objectives of this project include:
WHO WILL BENEFIT: This three-year project will benefit regional industry, government agencies, high school teachers and students, community college faculty and students, those switching into information technology careers, and those with bachelor’s degrees in unrelated fields. HOW TO GET STARTED: 1. Apply to Brookdale Community College. |
